They may call the Excalibur 2400 4 Tray Starter Series Food Dehydrator a starter unit, but it dehydrates as well as the bigger models and it's made of the same sturdy construction. Make everything from fruit leathers and jerky to dried flowers. This no-frills model is more compact and easier to use. Polycarbonate construction on the 2000 series is almost indestructible, and the four square trays are dishwasher-safe. A plexiglass door lets you check food drying at a glance. Each tray is independently removable, so you can check dryness without disturbing the other trays. The adjustable thermostat goes from 85-145F degrees, a range appropriate from fruit to jerky. Horizontal airflow is more even and doesn't mix food aromas, so you can dry meats and fruits in the same batch.
