Anura Overview

The GreenSpeed Aunra is designed for riders who may have problems getting in and out of the low seats on most tadpole (two front wheels, one rear wheel) trikes. The seat on the Anura is as high or higher than most kitchen chairs, at 18” from the ground, plus there is no cross member in front of the seat, or wheels to the side. Thus it is very easy to mount and dismount.

It is also designed to be used in tandem format, so that by removing the front wheel of one trike, the rear trike can be coupled to the front trike. Thus people with serious health issues, who want to cycle, but fear they do not have the strength or endurance, can cycle with their partners, and put in as little or as much effort as they want. In fact many people with serious illnesses like MS have made miraculous improvements in their lives, through getting regular exercise on the Anura.

Comfort & Ease

We have found that many physically challenged people prefer a more upright seating position than on most tadpole trikes, thus the Anura has a more upright seat, which has a 3” foam base to provide a comfortable ride with the more upright position. Plus, the frame is designed to flex, and the Scorcher tyres are very supple, and can be safely run at any pressure for 40 to 100 psi. Thus the Anura gives a very good ride. The seat is also adjustable for angle. Plus the handle bars are adjustable both for width and fore and aft.

With the delta format (one front wheel & two rear wheels) there is only 25% of the weight on the front wheel, thus the steering is even lighter than on our tadpole trikes, making steering effortless. And unlike the tadpole trikes, the Anura has disc brakes on all three wheels, so that the braking is easy and powerful. Having the one wheel out in front, instead of the rider’s feet, as on the tadpole trikes, can give an extra feeling of security in traffic.

Adaptability For People

With the emphasis on getting more people riding, the Anura is very adaptable. Special pedals can be ordered with calf supports which will keep the leg in line with the pedals, even if the rider has no lateral control over the leg. Plus, the frame can be shortened so that children can ride the Anura.

And on the IGH model the Nu Vinci hub can be replaced with a 3 speed fixed hub, giving 6 gears, with forced pedalling, for riders who cannot make the full circle with their feet. It is also easier to use with only one arm that the tadpole trikes, in that there is already a two into one brake lever for the rear brakes, which are sufficient on their own.

Performance Superior Traction

The frame of the Anura is 7005 aluminium alloy, and it has a simple design, so it is quite a light trike for a delta design. While the more upright seat will make it slower than some tadpole trikes with the low angle seat, the Anura has far superior traction. This is because instead of having only 1/3 of its weight on the single driving wheel on tadpole trikes, the Anura has TWO driving wheels with ¾ of the weight on them. Thus with the Anura you can ride up steep hills where there is gravel without the rear wheels spinning. It is also superior to other delta trikes which only have one wheel drive, in which the front wheel will tend to crab across the road, on steep hills. In fact, you can even ride the Anura on snow!

Another feature of the Anura is the narrow track. This allows the Anura to be ridden between bollards with confidence, and in fact at only 28.5” wide, it can be ridden through a standard doorway. Locating the seat close to the driving and balancing wheels give more stability than would be expected, and if more stability is wanted with the narrow track, then there is the Anura Quad which has more stability than most tadpole trikes. The rectangular main tube keeps the front frame in perfect alignment with the rear frame, making leg adjustment quick and easy with the optional Chain Gobbler, and is stronger than the round tube used on other trikes.

Smooth Changing Gearing

The Anura offers a choice of gearing systems. The Anura RL has the conventional 27 speed derailleur system with a triple chainring and crankset, and nine speed rear cassette. However, the Anura IGH offers the increasingly popular Nu Vinci infinitely variable ratio hub. This has a number of advantages over the old chain derailing systems. It has a gear range of 380%, from 0.5 in bottom to 1.9 in top. There is no clunk or jerk as the gears are changed, there is just a very smooth change in gear ratio as you twist the shifter, from low to high or from high to low.

As there are no steps in the system, there is no such thing as having one gear too low and the next too high, you can choose the ratio which is exactly right for whatever you are doing. Plus, without any internal gears nor ratchets, the hub is completely silent. At the front of the IGH is a ATS Speed Drive - a two speed bottom bracket, which increase the gear range to 627%. If need be, this can be replaced with a Mountain Drive, giving a gear range of 950%. Yet another advantage of the Nu Vinci system is that you change through over 50% of the range while stationary. So if you have to stop suddenly and do not have time to change down, you are able to change down far enough to take off OK while stopped.
